WATTS TOWERS by Sam Rodia
|
verticality height and upward movement![]() The Watts Towers as seen from the rear of the parcel of land where Sam Rodia had lived and worked in his spare time for decades, don't look as tall as they actually are; there are no reference points and the structures themselves are not subdivided into stories with recognizable elements like windows. To minimize vandalism a high fence has been put around the area. This makes it difficult, if not impossible to photograph them in their full height without having this white fence destroy the transparent effect of the towers in an otherwise visually impervious housing area consisting of only solid shapes.
