WATTS TOWERS by Sam Rodia
|
verticality height and upward movement![]() The intricate structure of the Watts Towers grew from the ground up. Every detail has been molded by Simon Rodia's own hands. As a tile setter he knew everything there was to know about the materials he used to build the towers. He knew that using drier mortar would put a brake on the contracting and cracking of the work when drying. Because cracks would let the water in and oxidize the iron wire, mesh and rods which rust in turn would expand and enlarge the cracks letting even more water in.
